Shift Control Option Keys Mac

Complete List of Mac Shortcut Keys

  1. Control Key On Mac Keyboard
  2. Mac Option Key On Windows
  3. Mac Shift Key

(Copied from here so that I can find it easier.)

When you use a Windows (PC) keyboard on a Macintosh computer, the keyboard shortcuts that you use map to different keys. In particular, the primary key that is used in keyboard shortcuts in combination with other keys is frequently different. Sorry to say it is still the same; Shift, Option, and Control on the left side not working. I tried pulling keys off and poking around to no avail. I am getting by, having most of those on the right side, and remapped the Caps Lock key so it now functions as the Control key, (the only key not duplicated on the right). An OS X system generates key events when a user presses a key on a keyboard or presses several keys simultaneously. When more than one key is pressed, one or more of those keys modifies the significance of the “main” key that is pressed. The most commonly used modifier keys are the Command, Control, Option (Alt), and Shift keys. Option-Shift-Brightness Up or Option-Shift-Brightness Down: Adjust the display brightness in smaller steps. Add the Control key to this shortcut to make the adjustment on your external display, if supported by your display. Option-Mission Control: Open Mission Control preferences. Command-Mission Control: Show the desktop. The Mac Option key also allows users to adjust brightness and volume in smaller increments for more fine-tuned adjustments. Just the keyboard shortcut “Option–Shift–Keyboard Brightness Up/Down” and “Option–Shift–Keyboard Volume Up/Down” to do that. Copy a Dragged Item. This is one of the most unknown features of the Option key.

Here are the modifier key symbols you can see in Mac OS X menus:

(Command key) – Sometimes called the “Apple key”; on Apple keyboards this key also has an Apple logo ()
(Control key)
(Option key) – “Alt” may also appear on this key
(Shift key)
(Caps Lock) – Toggles Caps Lock on or off
fn (Function key) – Located in the lower left corner of built-in keyboards on portable Macs
